... and they're off!

The second match completes the first leg of the BUTTS league. In Experience there is a clear divide between some teams with Warwick leading and the next 4 teams only separated by 24 points. In the novices Cambridge beat Birmingham to the top sport by 5 points, both teams just shy of 1900 but incredible scores for this time of year. Birmingham gained victory in the Boat Race.

In the individual performances Matt Langton, smashing any previous score he has shot at BUTTS scoring, 580 and claiming his gold BUTTS badge and the Gold Medal for Gents Recurve. Heather Reynolds won the Ladies recurve with 558. After last weeks 500 in the Gents novice from Yue Cheng, Birmingham's Lewis Clarke shot 498. Again showing the strength of the current novice intake. Ladies novice was won by Maryia Karpiyevich for Cambridge with 479.  However with only a week till the next competition things could get very interesting...

Success for Warwick at first leg of the Year

The first BUTTS leg has been held to begin the season. Nottingham Trent hosted Warwick, Derby and Nottingham for the first shoot of the year. The Gents Experienced Recurve was won by Chris Fry (Nottingham) with 573, followed by the Warwick pair of Jorge Lindly and Matt Cranham with 566 and 565 respectively. Ladies was close with Rachael Hutchison (Warwick) on 567, followed by Ellie Dyson (Trent) and Charlie Birch (Nottingham) both on 557. The teams was interesting with Nottingham, last years league winners, coming second to Warwick. Possibly due to Nottingham fielding an experienced team without either of their elite archers George Harding or their newcomer Andrew Randall. Derby showed a huge improvement in coming 3rd beating Nottingham Trent. This is the first time Derby have not come bottom of the table. Well done to Derby!

In the novices' top Gent was Yue Cheng (Nottingham) shooting 500, top lady was Emma Davis (Warwick) shooting 467. Both extreamly good scores for this time of year. Novice teams took the same pattern as the experienced with winners Warwick, followed by Nottingham, Derby and Nottingham Trent.

Full results will be published after the Loughborough half of leg next weekend (19th November) or earlier depending how I am feeling.

In the boat race Warwick won with a time of 23 seconds, followed by a good performance by Nottingham Trent in 2nd and Nottingham in 3rd place.

Welcome to the 2011/2012 Season

The beginner bows are out, the coaches are stress and you have given weapons to tens on confused freshers who thought they had turned up to fencing. The new season is upon us. Please check the calendar for full details of the year.

Note to due booking problems the first leg will be across two weekends, Trent on 12th and Loughborough on the 19th of November, With both parts of the next leg on the 26th of November.

BUCS indoor will be exciting this year with the venue of Telford international centre. This gives a possible 600 spaces for competitors. This was to deal with the increase in entries over the recent years to allow all students to be involved in the national championships if they wished to be. Double bowing will also be allowed, allowing people to enter for more than one bow style. My money is on 3 Gold medals for George Harding.
