BUTTS take Gold and Silver at BUTC

BUTTS league teams put an impressive showing into BUTC hosted by Warwick. Loughborough won gold beating Nottingham (last years champions) 15 to 13 who took second. Edinburgh came in 3rd just edging Oxford into 4th place. The Loughborough team made up of Tom Cram, Laura Church and Matt Cole, the latter not having shot seriously since BUCS outdoor in June of last year.

Well done to all who took part and a special thanks to Chris Blake who was tournament organiser this year. Anyone who has run BUTC will know of the challenges involved and Warwick ran the event beautifully.

Warwick's Championship to Lose

Warwick are almost certain winners of the experienced teams this year, with a 7 point lead a catastrophe would have to happen for them to loose the title. However almost all positions are anyone's to have with three teams matched on league points in 4th positions the Championships all the teams are going to have to up there game if they want to take those all important final positions.

The top of the novice table is still undecided. Birmingham have slipped of the top post, shooting their worst score of the season. With Cambridge always an unknown quantity Loughborough is not safe at number one spot. The three week wait begins before the Championships held at Loughborough, where for the first time medals will be up for grabs for the top three teams on the day, as well as the trophies for the top team overall.

BUCS Results

Full results published here

Well done to the BUTTS league who continue their strong form for another year. Only Edinburgh blighted an otherwise top 6 of 7 teams for the BUTTS League for the Experienced and 6 of the top 10 in novices. Notable mentions to Nottingham for removing Edinburgh from the top spot for the first time since 2002 and a new BUCS record of 2298. Andrew Randall for Nottingham also set a new Recurve record of 591, beating the previous record of 588, but just shy of George Harding's all Universities record of 592.

Also taking home gold medals were: Jonathan Ellis (Loughborough) for Gents Longbow, Jos Sarsby (Birmingham) for Ladies Barebow,  Robert Macauley (Loughbrough) for Novice Gent Barebow and a new record and Allan West (Birmingham) for Novice Gent Recurve.

Thanks must go to Aberystwyth for hosting, Loughborough for helping, Marc Tamlyn (Oxford Alumni) for writing the scoring system and getting the results out before the end of the raffle.

BUTTS badges can be claimed from the BUCS shoot as well as BUTTS shoots so you my claim them at the next leg. Birmingham and Nottingham host on the 25th Feb.
